83% Cannot Differentiate Between Dogfood & Pate!

In The Far Side, Uncategorized on May 17, 2009 at 11:29 am

The Colbert Report is one of my favorite shows so guess what Stephen finds this early morning am – a survey conducted by the American Association of Wine Economists which reports:

83% Could Not Tell the Difference Between Pate and Dogfood!

The abstract reads:

“In a double-blind test, subjects were presented with unlabeled, blended meat products, one of which was the prepared dogfood.:

Double-blind?

The researchers had no need to blindfold the poor loves – simply serve the “pate” with a cold glass of Buckfast or really push the boat out and try Blue Nun – guaranteed no-one will taste the difference between pate and burnt rubber.

For some reason, Krishnan Guru-Murthy springs to mind as he’s got the weekend off in London and is enjoying chicken curry which fills me with envy – perhaps I’ll try a tin of Caesar on toast but equally imposing upon my consciousness is Eddie Izzard’s yappy dog sketch and “give them a tin of Caesar and maybe they’ll shut the f**k up!”

The most important research result is the conclusion which may now be inferred – dog’s obviously do NOT lick their balls to get rid of the taste of dogfood!

Chrysler Goes Italian

In Uncategorized on April 30, 2009 at 10:07 pm

I’ve been writing for a few months on the billions of dollars bailing out the big US car makers and predicting Chrysler would go to the wall and today, it happens.

Yay me for being such a great pundit!

Count crow off that if you will when thousands of guys are going home to the wife and kids and saying, “Guess what honey? We’re getting an extra long summer vacation this year!”

It’s no bloody joke when a company like that goes down the toilet but one thing for America – it is the land not so much of opportunity as reinvention.

Fiat has been waiting in the wings for some months and the unions too, waiting to take a slice of this beached whale unable to swim without a massive buoyancy aid (in this case the US taxpayer).

90 days is the expected purdah for Chrysler to emerge from the proceedings, not as a dead name to be lost in the corporate swamp of time, but a newer, leaner, sleeker company with an Italian image makeover.

BaddaBing BaddaBoom!

I guess the poor Joes making their way home at the moment can console themselves with the CEO’s announcement he will resign after the bankruptcy and a new board of directors will be appointed, no doubt just in time to interview these guys trying to get their old jobs back.

Then again, this is America in action – you can’t make it don’t expect someone else to do it for you!

Expect new technology, ecologically sound policies and a reshaped company ready to emerge for the recovery which I suspect is looming around Q409 or Q110 – nicely timed by those pulling the strings and ultimately, if all those jobs are to come back perhaps this is the best way to get it done, cold, clean and quick.

Just my five cents worth.

Magazine Rejection Dejection Ejection

In Uncategorized on April 28, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Today marks the 100th magazine rejection :(

Rejection is just part of the job and I’m trying to break into a new market and away from the technical hobgoblins and SEO copywriting which though simple and easy is boring and not so lucrative.

Like anything else, the more you ask the more people are going to say “No!” but eventually I will get to that special someone who says, “Yup! – 50 cents a word, i need 1,500 on Tokyo nightlife by next Friday – got that?  Good!”

Who’d have thunk it – editors as nice people?

Now I am dreaming in LaLa Land – those red pens are red for a reason – all that burning of poor scribes at the stake is what that represents and I ain’t fooled.

Undeterred it’s back to submissions and I have another rejection even as I write; I sense a conspiracy or I’m just not doing this right so rather than banging cerebellum against brick wall I think I’ll regroup and take another look at what they’re asking for and what I’m doing wrong.

All I can say is thank God the maintenance guy came and fixed the AC today now get back to work!
